Words and Mirrors (2020)

I created this piece for the opening of Yarava Electronic Studio (YES). Due to the limitations of the pandemic, the studio officially launched online on its Instagram page on August 17, 2020. The opening program, titled “From 0 to 1,” featured several musical pieces, discussions, live performances, video art, and more, all uploaded to Instagram according to the schedule below.

This piece was a collaboration with Shaghayegh Bagheri. We began by recording various words with different inflections at Yarava Electronic Studio. During the performance, these words were triggered using a MIDI controller, synchronized with the vocalist’s live improvisation. The goal of this piece was to highlight the reciprocal influence of re-interpreting words between the vocalist and live electronics.

At that time, I intended to create a series of such pieces, and I named this first one “Etude No. 1.” I hope to achieve this goal in the future.
