Atonal Piece (2016)
About Piece
As a master’s student in composition, one of my favorite courses was “Analysis of Contemporary Music,” taught by Dr. Amin Honarmand. In this class, we explored three styles: Minimalist, Neoclassical, and Atonal, and for our final project, we composed a piece in each style.
This particular piece is in the Atonal style and is inspired by the works of Olivier Messiaen. You can find a complete explanation of the compositional process and an analysis of the piece in the file below (in Persian).
Performance
This piece was performed by me (piano) and Fahimeh Taghavi (oboe) at the final concert for the class. The file below is from one of our rehearsals.
This video is from the final concert. I hadn’t planned on filming the performance, and this video was recorded solely for memories by my dear friend, Mehrdad Ghaffari. Even though it’s not an official video and the quality isn’t ideal, I wanted to share it here as a memory.
